Winner gets to travel down to my house and do the work for me.

I refuse to answer as I do not want the prize.

Absolutely nothing is wrong. What do I win.

But it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

I have enough opportunities to fix stuff outside my house. Given that one of the cars looks like it was dragged from a lake, there might be once in a lifetime faults right there.

I love it how the Neon got Escape control arms.

(they both have issues with the rear vertical bushing separating from the arm)

It'll be fine. Just don't race/autocross/drive/sit-in it.
This was literally the second thing I did to my car after I bought it.
The first was the famed rear struct mounting bushing.
The thing squeaked like crazy.
At least you don't have a first gen. The nut at the top had a habit of rusting away and snapping off. Had to cut the floor to change the nut.

Oh. Well, it was quite a surprise to find. A bushing replacement is something you expect on a high mileage 80's project car, not something that's 12 years old with only 140k on the clock. I blame the rough roads in my area.

So far I've been pretty lucky, the car's been pretty sound mechanically. I'm coming up on 3 years of ownership now and these two $20 bushings are probably the most expensive part I've put into the car.

We used to do them UNDER WARRANTY. Cars just ain't made to last 100k+ anymore without major-ish repairs.

Wow. That's damn impressive. I am on my 2nd Neon. I had a first gen which I paid $400 for. It was immaculate. Minus the clutch blowing up 35 miles away from where I bought it. That was an $800 adventure. Other then that, it was rock solid for 3 years.
The SRT-4 has had a tougher life. I have replaced all of the suspension bushings over the 4 years I have owned it, as well as the clutch. and I am planning on doing the timing belt and water pump shortly. I still think these poor little cars were underrated.

From what I've been able to tell, it seems about half of all Neons made were solid cars, and the other half were absolute lemons. Nothing in between.
